Conversations on Collaborations
Working with Lisa Fero and Bebe Federmann on Hanukkah Most Handsome was fun and invigorating. They are two very different creative spirits and I thought you might like to hear from them about this collaboration and their wishes for you for the season. Enjoy our little chat!
JASON: I’m always interested in the perspective of my collaborators upon finishing a project together. How did you feel about this collaboration and creating something completely unique by collaborating with others, Lisa?
LISA: I am beyond excited about this collaboration! I fell in love with your Hanukkah tablescape and decor last year, as it was so sophisticated, yet whimsical. I am in awe of your styling, the color palettes you choose, and the way in which you incorporate nature into your themes. I love Bebe's pottery as well, as each piece is so artistically, yet carefully, designed.
JASON: I appreciate that, Lisa. The admiration is mutual! I also appreciate the details in your ceramics, Bebe. Do you have anything you wish to share about our collaboration?
BEBE: I loved being able to collaborate with you, Jason, from our initial conversation, design ideas and creating such beautiful vignettes. Being able to work with different people like you and Lisa, especially when they live in different parts of the country, truly lets you explore new directions as you are also allowing new designs to take form through someone else's eyes, not just your own.
JASON: I couldn’t agree more! I feel that it pulls out the best in everyone and drives originality. I am most thrilled in how the colors and materials played off each other. Lisa, what are you most excited about within our vignette?
LISA: I'm excited for your imagination coupled with our decor. Also, for others to take that inspiration and incorporate it into their own homes.
JASON: I’m excited for that, too. I am hoping to see some tags of #warmhousehanukkah this year to see how people push themselves to try new things. Bebe, what are you most excited about our presentation?
BEBE: I like that the vignettes capture not just the artist's interpretation when thinking about Hanukkah, but also how traditional and contemporary shapes, colors and forms play together to create a welcoming feeling that is new and modern, while filling you with childhood nostalgia and memories of lighting the menorah.
JASON: We are like minded on that, Bebe. It is the mix that makes the moment. We all have our go-to looks, but it is a much more fun challenge to work in all of the elements of the individual creators. I’m so happy with what we created together! As I look at what we did I am filled with Happy Hanukkah wishes for all. Bebe, what do you wish for others this year?
BEBE: My wishes this holiday season are for people everywhere to feel peace, love, and have the freedom to express our own unique beliefs and traditions.
JASON: Cheers to that! We could all use more peace and love in the world. In fact, Lisa, that is so apropos given that your shop is called Peace, Love, Light! What are your wishes for others for Hanukkah this year?
LISA: Hanukkah is early this year, as it begins the evening of November 28th. That can cause stress as we all 'rush' to get everything done. My wish is for all to reflect to what this holiday is all about. One of my favorite quotes from Rabbi David Wolpe is "The shamash is the candle that lights the others. Be a shamash." This Hanukkah, be a light for others who may need it.
JASON: What a beautiful way to wrap up our conversation on collaboration. I love that sentiment, Lisa. I hope that we can all take some time to provide light for people of all backgrounds this year and enjoy memorable moments with those we love. Thank you both for joining me on this Hanukkah journey. It was a true pleasure and a privilege. Happy Hannukah!
