Marvelous Mugs
Part of the fun in collaborating with a maker with a different aesthetic and approach than yourself is that it creates some design and curation considerations that are different than what our instincts might be working alone. I really don’t work on anything at Warmhouse Story alone. I like the challenge of working in the design point of view of another to make something cohesive that is still distinctly Warmhouse.
Aya’s work has both modern and classic elements and I love the distinctively Japanese details. You can see this in the lid of the cocoa pot and the angles of the body of that vessel. It is simply stunning. The texture and faceting details feel so wonderful in your hands. There is something so calming about wrapping your hands around a beautifully designed mug with a warm beverage inside. Aya’s mugs and teacups are surprisingly light weight. The glazes that she uses have a beautiful imperfect patina. You just know that you are holding on to a one-of-a-kind treasure.
I appreciate Aya’s perfectionism and know that it took her several iterations to land on a cocoa pot that met her expectations on beauty and function. It will serve me well in the future as a teapot, but I know that I will bring it out every winter for cocoa and cherish the memorable moments of collaboration with her this year.
I can only hope that the joyful, yet moody outcome of our creation inspires you to search out the perfect pieces for your holiday food and drink traditions- whatever they may be. The memories that we attach to our most cherished objects are often intimate and touching. We both wish you a season full of new memories and marshmallow magic, too!
