Creature Comforts
My Curio Cabinets and prop closet are filled with fascinating creations from collaborators from all over the world. Some of my very favorites are used on my Fall Fantastic table. When I start the process of creating an installation and table scape, I play around with a few themes, gather up an abundance of possible objects and then start to edit them down into priority elements. The elements from nature usually follow suit (including food).
When I started dreaming up a fall idea, my creature masks from Curious Fair immediately came to mind. I found the magic of Curious Fair feather masks when I was deep in the Etsy rabbit hole looking for Halloween costumes one year. Their masks can be found here. Their shop is located north and west of London in the city of Norwich in England’s Norfolk County. I have never been there, but I know that I will travel there someday!
The craftmanship and the attention to detail on these masks is incredible. Feathers and paint with other bits and bobs are combined to make whimsical yet realistic interpretations of a number of animals. Chad and I already owned a stag and fox mask, so for this installation I just needed another forest friend, and I chose their chipmunk.
Curious Fair has masks and accessories for both children and adults. If you want to get ahold of one for Halloween, I’d act quickly to take advantage of what they have in stock right now. I love that you can wear them like a traditional mask, but also atop your head as more of a hat if you will. That way you can also have face paint beneath. I can’t wait to come up with another concept in which these tremendous works of art can make an appearance.
A second favorite find that fills my curio cabinet are delightful dinnerware pieces from Kolektiv DVA. While I have shared these with you before, there is a wonderful Warmhousy addition in the form of reversible taper and tea light holders to match their reductive yet classic plates and bowls. The folks at Kolectiv DVA have been collaborating with me on this Warmhouse Story exclusive for several months and I will have them available at some pop-up moments as we head into the winter!
These ceramics are simple yet divine. Their texture is smooth and buttery, and the glaze has slight variations that add great character. I love these pieces so much that they travel back and forth between my Atmospheric Workshop and home as needed. I think I need a special dinnerware travel bag just for these favorites of mine. You can find them here. They are even offering you a 20% discount with the code WARMHOUSESTORY-20. You. Will. Love. These. Ceramics.
As you can see from the Apple Bombs plated on Kolektiv DVA’s plates that they are a beautiful and humble foundation to your most special meals. The precision rim with a simple drop makes these pieces versatile yet very special. It makes me so happy to set the table with these pieces and now, the matching candle holders.
Warmhouse Story is always about the mix. Old and new. Craft and antiques. Opulent and humble. I had a blast using these very special items from my Curio Cabinets to bring Fantastic Mr. Fox to life as inspiration for your fall entertaining. Come take a workshop and enjoy using them to get your hands dirty and gather using plates and plant matter. Regardless, I hope you have fun coming up with your own special ideas for your autumnal entertaining this year!
