All Together Now
As someone who loves to host, I’m super grateful that it is relatively safe to gather together with those we hold close. Last year it was a two cats, two humans kind of holiday season. There were a lot of wonderful moments, but the time has come to entertain again! I’m not sure what we’ll be doing at home yet, but in the Inspirational Parlor it is time to have a wild feast for the tummy and the eyes with the Fantastic Mr. Fox!
I’ve been a huge fan of Roald Dahl as far back as I can remember. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory satisfied my sweet tooth and James and the Giant Peach made garden critters a little less creepy. But for this guy (who loves a great gathering around the table), Fantastic Mr. Fox is fulfilling and fabulous in the fall.
For those not in the know, the story follows the anthropomorphic Mr. Fox as he and all of his woodland friends find ways to outwit three bumbling farmers of fowl and make away for a fantastic feast underground. I won’t give away all of the story, but needless to say there is a wonderful scene with an incredible table spread for all the forest buddies.
I was inspired by the tale and the memorable moment of gathering together to appreciate bounty and friendship. It only makes sense that I would need a fox and a friend to complete this fall vignette. Featuring beautiful feather masks by Curious Fair tucked amongst fall foliage, I found inspiration in the many fruits and foods of autumn. Pears. Apples. Figs. Rotisserie Chicken. Potatoes. And the very best… baked apple bombs from the Whole Fruit Pie Company in Los Angeles!
Set with the stunning and reductive dinnerware of Kolektiv DVA, the table honors the tale of survival and bounty as the pages fly out of Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr. Fox and get caught in the branches of the floral installation.
Full of fall color and a foundation of ever-present greenery, I could almost feel a slight breeze in the studio announcing the arrival of a new season. (In actuality, there is a HUGE air vent by this table in the Inspirational Parlor but just go with me.)
All in all, what made me smile the most while creating this tableau was the thought of gathering with family and friends this fall to enjoy tasty food and good company. I hope this creation gives you some ideas to add interest and magic to your table at harvest time. Enjoy hearing more about the masks and dinnerware in the Curio Cabinet. There is always inspiration abound to create a fantastic atmosphere in your home for fall entertaining. I hope you have the best time sharing your food and your feelings of gratitude with your family and friends as the change of season blows in!
